Meet the Artist Behind Cereal Crums: Harry’s Decade-Long Quest for Joyful Art
Hey! My name is Harry!
I'm currently 31 and have been chasing this small, niche art career for well over a decade now. Yep, a long time. Don't remind me! What keeps me going? The pure joy I get from creating.
It's been a bit of a chaotic journey, and I'm still far from where I thought I'd be, but honestly, I wonder if I'll ever be content. I thrive on a good project, learning new skills, and staying busy, so the odds are stacked against me on that one.
The Birth of Cereal Crums: Finding My Niche
After years and years of inconsistent styles and a total lack of direction, I decided I needed to shut up and commit to something. I started leaning into the way I naturally begin to draw. I realised that, most of the time, I just want to communicate something funny and relatable. What truly drives me is a silly idea or world I think others will appreciate.
And just like that, Cereal Crums was born! It's my little, weird corner of the internet where I create whimsical illustrations and unique gifts that, hopefully, bring people a bit of joy.
Of course, there are still moments when I want to experiment with different mediums or spend a week drawing a fine-art portrait—and I make sure to do that. It's so easy to get caught up chasing a narrow definition of "success," but after a decade of cycling through burnouts, I know you sometimes need to put the big goals aside. It's okay to do that!
Inspiration: The Life of a Cozy Nerd
What fuels the art you see on my shop and blog?
Quite often, my life experiences. From the things that make me uncomfortable to the little joys, like my dog, Chips! You'll spot a few other recurring themes in my Cereal Crums art: fantasy, nature, and all the cozy hobbies like gaming and reading.
I’m probably what you'd call a cozy nerd. I'm pretty introverted and love being huddled away with a jigsaw puzzle or a video game, and that quiet, comforting aesthetic definitely shows in my work.
What's Next for Cereal Crums?
My big dream is to grow a small, supportive community that I can consistently share my joyful art with. I dabbled with streaming on Twitch and met a lovely group of people, but found I couldn't stream as often as I wanted to. I'm currently exploring YouTube as an option and hope to have some videos up soon—think art process, studio vlogs, and maybe some cozy gaming!
I’ve also got a massive dream project currently in the works—I can't quite believe it's actually happening! I hope to share more on that at some point in the next year, so definitely stay tuned.
Anyway, I have a tendency to ramble, so I'll wrap this artist backstory up here! Make sure to sign up for my newsletter to catch the monthly photo dumps, process content, and the tips and tricks I’ve learned along the way.
Take care and thanks for stopping by!
